About the Chamber Founded in 1879 by some forward-thinking business people, the Maryborough Chamber of Commerce is now an incorporated not-for-profit organisation. Our members include retailers, manufacturers, educators, medical practitioners, hoteliers and welfare providers, just to name a few. Our Executive Board consists of volunteer members who are elected to office each year by the full membership. The Maryborough Chamber of Commerce Constitution is available to read .... here! Maryborough was the second Chamber of Commerce formed in Queensland and was instrumental in getting a telephone system to service Maryborough – once again the second in Queensland. The objects of the Chamber • To watch over and protect the interests of the mercantile community of the city and district. • To promote by all means in its power, the welfare and expansion of the city and district generally. • To support local authorities and other public bodies in any matter in the interests of the city and district. • To support any movement arising from surrounding centres that has for its object the development of the city and district.
